The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, representing the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, led a delegation of business leaders and officials from Tanzania to participate in the Second Indonesia-Africa Forum, held from September 1 to 3, 2024.
At this pivotal forum, the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (TCCIA) was represented by the Vice President for Industry, Mr. Abdul Mwilima. Mr. Mwilima delivered a presentation on food security in Tanzania, outlining the strategies the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has implemented to ensure sustainable food security. He highlighted the proactive steps being taken by the government to address the challenges posed by climate change, emphasizing efforts to assist farmers in improving crop yields and increasing food availability across the country.
The Indonesia-Africa Forum provided an opportunity for TCCIA and other stakeholders from Tanzania to engage with their counterparts from Indonesia and various African nations. The discussions centered around strengthening partnerships, enhancing trade, and exploring new investment opportunities, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, industry, and technology. Tanzania’s participation in this forum underscores the country’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and ensuring that its domestic policies align with global efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.
Mr. Mwilima also emphasized the importance of regional and international cooperation in addressing global food security challenges, noting that Tanzania is actively seeking to collaborate with countries like Indonesia, which have made significant advances in agricultural technologies. By forging such partnerships, Tanzania aims to enhance its agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of its farmers while contributing to food security in Africa and beyond.
The Second Indonesia-Africa Forum, much like its predecessor, was a platform for African nations and Indonesia to discuss and implement concrete measures to boost economic relations. It provided Tanzanian businesses, through TCCIA, the opportunity to network, share knowledge, and explore new avenues for trade and investment that will contribute to the nation’s economic growth and prosperity.
As the forum concluded, it was clear that the partnerships formed and the ideas shared will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Tanzanian-Indonesian relations, particularly in areas such as food security, industrial development, and climate resilience. The presence of high-level delegates like President Mwinyi and representatives from TCCIA highlighted Tanzania’s active role in regional and global economic platforms, setting the stage for increased cooperation with Indonesia and other African countries.
TCCIA’s participation in this forum reaffirms its commitment to engaging with international partners to address key challenges and capitalize on opportunities that will drive economic development and improve the welfare of Tanzanians.
