A delegation from the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (TCCIA) has recently completed a visit to Tanzania’s border regions, focusing on inspecting the One Stop Border Posts (OSBPs). This visit, which took place from July 15 to 19, 2024, was led by the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Hon. Ambassador Dr. John Stephen Simbachawene. The delegation also included TCCIA’s Vice President for Agriculture, Mr. Swallah Said Swallah, and Trade Officer, Ms. Josephine Edington, all of whom are members of the National Committee on Trade Facilitation (NCoTF).
The primary objective of this visit was to assess the operations of various institutions at the border posts, identify challenges, and seek solutions to streamline the business environment across Tanzania’s borders.
During their visit, the team had the opportunity to tour several One Stop Border Posts, including Kabanga (Tanzania-Burundi border), Rusumo (Tanzania-Rwanda border), and Mutukula (Tanzania-Uganda border). The delegation observed firsthand the challenges affecting cross-border trade and pinpointed actions necessary to enhance the services provided at these posts.
The committee engaged with various trade stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving border operations and facilitating smoother business transactions. The insights gathered will inform efforts to address identified issues and implement effective solutions.
TCCIA remains committed to working closely with the government and all relevant stakeholders to improve border operations and ensure efficient and beneficial cross-border trade. These visits are a crucial part of TCCIA’s ongoing efforts to bolster national economic development and advance various sectors including trade, industry, and agriculture in Tanzania.
