The Regional Commissioner of Tanga, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Batilda Burian, has directed District Commissioners across the Tanga region to establish integrated economic empowerment and investment centers in every district. The goal is to spur community development by strengthening the business and investment environment at the local level.
Ambassador Dr. Batilda issued this directive while opening the Tanga Regional Business Council meeting, which was attended by representatives from various districts and municipalities. The Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (TCCIA) Tanga branch was represented by its Chairman, Mr. Rashid Mwanyoka, along with other members, including an official from the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC) and secretariat members.
Explaining the significance of these centers, Ambassador Dr. Batilda noted that an integrated center has already been established at the Tanga City Council building, a center that was inaugurated by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Hon. Dr. Selemani Jafo. These centers are aimed at reducing the time and costs for businesses and investors in handling various business-related matters, thus enhancing the ease of doing business and fostering investment growth in the region.
The meeting also brought together various stakeholders, including representatives from the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), Tanga Port, Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), National Development Corporation (NDC), Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), and Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), among others. These key players provided updates on the implementation of previous resolutions and shared feedback on progress made since the last Regional Business Council meeting.
TCCIA, as a major stakeholder in national business councils, commended the Tanga regional government for organizing this important meeting, reflecting the ongoing efforts to stimulate economic growth at the district level. This initiative mirrors the leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, who recently chaired the National Business Council meeting at State House, Dar es Salaam, to address national business challenges.
TCCIA applauded the regional government’s commitment to ensuring a collaborative and inclusive approach to addressing the business environment, focusing on improving the ease of doing business and creating opportunities for investors. These integrated centers are expected to play a critical role in empowering local businesses, promoting regional investment, and contributing to the broader economic development of Tanzania.
